The Division of Surface Water is a part of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, which is governed by the state of Ohio. The division is responsible for restoring and maintaining the quality of rivers and streams in the state. It assists to enforce state environmental laws for the monitoring of aquatic environment. The Division of Surface Water offers certification programs for water and wastewater treatment facilities. The division s pretreatment program regulates industrial discharges into the public wastewater system. In addition, it annually issues more than 2,000 permits to construct sewers for the disposal of sludge from wastewater treatment facilities. The Division of Surface Water conducts biological and chemical water quality surveys.
