Comanche Electric Cooperative s service area is more than 6,000 square miles and is divided into seven nominating districts. Two members from each district are nominated to and voted upon to serve on the board of directors. The company has more than 50 full time employees, 15,500 billed meters, and 5,000 miles of energized line in seven counties that include Brown, Eastland, Stephens, Comanche, Mills, Callahan and Shackelford. Comanche Electric Cooperative purchased its wholesale power from Brazos Electric Power Cooperative, which generates and transmits wholesale power to 17 electric cooperatives. The majority of the power is generated by the San Miguel plant, which is a lignite coal powered plant. Comanche Electric Cooperative was formed in August 1938 and is headquartered in Comanche, Texas.
