Owens Corning, the company that invented glass fiber, uses its glass fibers in applications including boats, skis, hockey sticks and fiber-optic cables. In 1953, Owens Corning and General Motors announced the first production automobile to be made entirely of fiberglass-reinforced plastic, the Chevrolet Corvette. Owens Corning has manufacturing, sales and research facilities as well as joint ventures and licensee relationships in more than 30 countries on six continents. Owens Corning has its world headquartered in Toledo, Ohio, as well as facilities throughout the United States including the location in Concord, N.C.
