The Indiana State Police was established in 1921 as the Indiana Motor Vehicle Police. Today, it is a full-service law enforcement agency that operates through several divisions, including commercial vehicle enforcement, communication, criminal investigation, operation support, criminal justice data and human resources. The agency s laboratory division operates various forensic testing facilities that offer DNA collection and analysis services for a range of evidentiary material, as well as meet the accreditation standards of the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors / Laboratory Accreditation Board. It also handles photography requests, crime scene support, and evidence security and tracking requirements through its laboratory management section. The Indiana State Police operates a memoriam and museum, as well as the Recruit Academy, which provides training in the areas of criminal law, psychology, vehicle operations, and impaired driver prevention and detection. Additionally, the agency organizes youth camps with support from the Association of Indiana Troopers, Indiana District Optimists, Indiana State Police Alliance, and Indiana Troopers Association.
