AVOID GOLDMAX USA. Do not take your gold to goldmax usa. For one, they have no customer satisfaction guarantee and they will not tell you that all sales are final, they expect you to know. And two, they will give you the very least amount for your gold as possible. I made that mistake and took some of my gold there, I realized a few hours later that I can't part with my gold as it had a lot more sentimental value as it was gifts from my mother. I was told there was nothing they could do. I tried to make my self feel better by doing some research in hopes that I at least got what I deserved for them and was surprised at how I was ripped off. I would have been better of taking my gold anywhere else but goldmax. I would have received not only 2x more but up to 3x more by selling online or at a jewelry place. So now, I don't only feel sad because I no longer have my jewelry, but I also basically gave my jewelry away as I got about a third of what I should have received for them. So do yourself a favor and take your jewelry else wehre. Do your research first.

I recently had a similar experiience with GoldMax USA (Formerly Southeast Gold Buyers). In my opinion, the reason they will not quote you their price before "testing" and weighing it on scale is because they lowball you so they will have room to "offer a deal" when you refuse. They'll tell you that the reason they can't quote is the "rapidly changing price of gold" but this is a bogus argument. I called several places to compare - two Pawn Stores and two local, family owned jewelry stores. They ALL gave me a "price per gram" or "price per ounce" that they would pay that day. It was usually a range of a few dollars, but it was solid enough for me to determine what I would walk away with. GoldMaxUSA does not allow you to call their local stores - all of their phone #s ring to a voicemail - they want you IN their stores with your Gold, because you're much less likely to leave. In my opinion and experience, GoldMaxUSA's claim that they pay the "highest price for Gold" is simply not true - let me make this clear - they will NOT pay you the highest price as compared to other places. My proof? I took approximately 45 grams of 14K Gold into a GoldMaxUSA store in the Atlanta area - the lady was very nice - but she would not weigh my gold first, until she "tested" it (it was clearly stamped 14K on each piece). I had weighed my gold at home on a high quality kitchen scale - it came in at approximately 45 grams. I calculated the spot market value of my gold that day was around $1500.00, so I expected to be offered no LESS than $1000.00. Imagine my surprise when my offer came in at $490 and change! I immediately got up and that's when the sales lady sprang into action: "let me call my supervisor" She dialed her cell a couple of times, but couldn't teach anyone...then she tried to offer me a bit more, but I told her that I was expecting at least double. I even left her my phone # and that if she would meet my price, I'd come back. Of course, I never heard from her.

Bottom line - as a consumer, you MUST be informed - never walk into a "Cash for Gold" store without KNOWING how much Gold you have, the spot price on that day, and what the "price per gram" you'll be offered. If you visit GoldMaxUSA, have your figures written down and the bottom-line price you will accept and be prepared to either walk out, or engage in "used car sales" banter. Do your own research. Read Google reviews and complaints about GoldMaxUSA (or Southeast Gold Buyers, their former name) to learn what other are saying. Read sites like http://Yelp.com, Google Local, YP.com and others that are true reviews - not websites that "look" like review sites, but are likely written by the company themselves.

In summary, KNOW what you have - weigh your gold, know the current price. Then ask your buyer what is the best price they will give you. I was able to find a local jewelry store that paid me THREE times what GoldMax offered - you read that right - 3 times! I received $1472.00 for the exact same gold that GoldMaxUSA offered $490.00 for. You too can be a smart seller of your gold.

This company is a Joke.

I called to find out what percentage of spot value thos company pays. They informed me that information could not be given over the phone... red flag #1. Then I told Ruth Ann that I would be bringing alot of gold in and that the person paying the highest percentage of spot value would get the gold and still she kept repeating the same corporate BS we dont give quotes over the phone. When I informed her I was minimg karat gold she replied they didnt buy raw gold..... How can you have a company that doesnt buy raw Karat gold in the gold buying business. Red flag number 2....I serioursly doubtthis companys validity if they have people as smart as Ruth Ann answering calls from the public.
