Cornelius Elementary School provides accelerated reader and English as a Second Language programs. The school s staff of more than 80 employees includes subject teachers, literacy facilitators, occupational therapists, and media and student services specialists. It serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Cornelius Elementary School s media center houses a collection of picture dictionaries, reference materials, and fiction and nonfiction books. The media center also provides individual, whole class and small group instruction, as well as inviting areas for listening, reading and viewing. The school s department of art teaches various elements and principles of design, including color, lines, shapes, texture, balance, pattern, value, perspective and form. Cornelius Elementary School offers classes in English, math, science, social studies, physical education, art and music. The school is a part of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
