Beautiful new facility with a medical clinic attached. Guthrie has clearly put a lot of effort into putting together a top-notch team and it shows!

So after 2 years, I am finally able to write this review.

My father was taken to this hospital after suffering a heart attack in 2016. He had stage 4 colon cancer and had a DNR. It was clear he was in the final stages of his life and was in pain. At this point, the only medical service needed was pain management.

Dad was screaming, grimacing, and tensing from the extreme discomfort. We asked the doctor to please provide some relief. It took over 4 hours for a doctor to finally authorize a pain medication. They tried to give it to him orally. When that was not successful, it took another 2 hours to get authorization for a morphine drip. Then the staff could not find the ONE AND ONLY key for the drip! After searching for 30 minutes, it was located in a trash can. When he finally received the morphine drip, his pain subsided and he rested comfortably. His drip ran out twice, we have pictures of his "care board" next to the room clock with missed dosages.

We complained to the nursing staff and were summoned by the nursing supervisor who "apologized" for the lack of attentive care and assured us it would not happen again. But it did.

Doctor told us he would be kept comfortable and pass peacefully. We were visited by a social worker who told us he would need to be transferred to a nursing facility.

Our Dad passed peacefully after 5 days. I am so thankful I had my brother and sister with me to advocate for his care.

I had a severe stomach pain. A small red spot, the size of a dime, appeared immediately after the pain hit. I went to Corning Hospital for treatment. After routine blood work, a CT scan and two morphine doses, I was given the option of staying overnight and be treated for pain or going home with pain medication. The Nurse Practioner told me it was either a gas pain or a muscle spasm. I NEVER saw a doctor. The spot from which the pain radiated from had grown to about 2 inches while I was there. They had looked at it and disregarded it.

The next morning I went to Arnot Ogden ER where they actually treated the contagious staph infection on my stomach with an antibiotic and gave me a pain medication that did not make my eyes swell half shut. Corning Hospital ER is literally going to kill someone with their incompetence. This last visit definitely showed me how dangerous it is to go there for treatment.

Later I found out from my doctor that Corning Hospital ER stated in my medical record that it was a belly button infection! I showed him a picture of it and he could not believe how Corning Hospital ER had handled it. He held his head and shook it from side to side saying “Oh my God!!”

Horrible! Took a really long time. No one checked in for hour at a time. Staff not caring, in fact were rude.

pathetic overnight staff

Brought my wife in with immense pain from her broken arm. The "doctor" let her lay in the bed crying for over and hour because she forgot to order a shot.

Is Anybody There?!

I just attempted to contact my mom who is a patient at the Corning Hospital. After 4 p.m. either no one is in the building or the phone is put on mute so no one hears it ring. This is abominable! No reception desk, no phone number on the website. I reached the number here in yellow pages. It automatically connects to emergency. Dial 1 for emergency. Dial 2 for all other business.... If you dial 2 it's-- "cricket, cricket, cricket..." Called back to emergency. If this is an emergency call 911. Or dial 1 for emergency business. Dialed 1. Got someone. She was kind and sympathetic. Failed to ring me through to the third floor though. Got the "phone with the perpetual ring" again! I hung up and called emergency again. Got someone else. She got me connected to the ward. The nurse there never heard of such a problem. I guess anyone in the Corning area must have the maze of dial options outlined across their refrigerator. The nurse sounded like she was making the first trans-atlantic phone connection hooking up to mom's room down the hall. This hospital must be standing on the edge of a financial cliff. They can't afford to pay one minimum wage salary for a receptionist/secretary after hours or coffee for a volunteer. I'm sure this lack of basic communication is no reflection on the cutting edge care and treatment patients receive inside even though family can't reach them through decades old traditions, LIKE AN OPERATOR!!!
