Dr. Christine Canterbury grew up in the beautiful coastal community of Rockport, Texas. Because family is very important to her, she always knew she wanted to come back and settle near them in this area. When the opportunity to affiliate with Corpus Christi Women's Clinic in 1998 was presented, it enabled her to realize that plan. During her junior year at Stanford University, Dr. Canterbury made the decision to become a doctor. "I wanted to help people. You feel like you can make a difference and medicine is the place where I could make the most difference and be more motivated and pro active." Her focus was physiology, the study of human biology and how the body works. "I always loved science and was particularly interested in how the mind affects the body. I chose obstetrics because of my interest in the biological, psychological and social aspects of pregnancy." Possessing an attribute for empathy, Dr. Canterbury's personal philosophy resonates with the desire to help others, "One should give back something they've reaped - the more you get in life, the more you owe." Because of her commitment to this concept, she started a women's clinic for the non-profit Metro Ministries Organization. She says, "the need was there for a female focus." Dr. Canterbury maintains a daily physical fitness regimen and enjoys cooking, reading and spending time with her family.
