First time at Shady Lane Ranch. If you just want a relaxing ride, that's what you will get. The horses do follow in line, but we had a couple of boys & it was their first time to ride so that was ok. For the most part, the staff was friendly.... except the owner. He seemed agitated & rushed you on and off the horses. I asked for one photo of our son on his horse because it was his first experience. The owner wouldn't let me even though another dad was aloud to take a picture of his girl on the horse she had just ridden. I would have expected better service after we paid $100 cash (he only takes cash) to ride the horses. Just wanted one picture. Thanks for nothing mister. Way to ruin a perfectly good moment that we will never get back.

Was just out there recently and had a blast. I will be telling my friends about this place. It just what it says a fun place for your family. This is a great place for kids and adults both. We had a beautiful hay rack ride and then got a bonfire where we sat and roasted hot dogs and made are smores. My kids had a great time. This was an event that they will remember and I will try to make this something we can do each year. May try to have another on soon.

I wish to respond to Nates Review I am the supervisor of the security at Shady Lane. I have been working here for over 22 years. The gentleman in question (NATE) failed toput in his review that he had a dog with him and the property has strict rules on having animals on the property due to the amount of people and kids there along with the animals. Also he did not mention that he was going to leave the dog in the front of a pickup for at least an hour or more, the hayride is 1hr 15 minutes of beautiful land. I have been here for 22 years. People have been coming here for that long. They come back every year for the fun and enjoyment for example on the same night there was a group that has been coming there for 29 years and have never had a problem as he stated. Shady Lane is a good get away from the city so you can enjoy times with family and friends. The property has nature so the kids can see deer, turkey and other wildlife. It has a beautiful overlook also so please judge for yourself and enjoy SHADY LANE RANCH you will make it a every YEAR event!!!

Sad sad place, didnât even get on a hay ride. For starters the rent a cop to park your vehicle was extremely unprofessional. When we pulled up he wanted to know who we were with, well it was a group outing so we told him the group, he had no clue and wanted to know who we were going on a hay ride with⦠sorry this information was not given to us. So he asked us to turn around and leave. When we saw our group just to the right we asked to talk with them. We did and as we were getting the name he yelled at us. In which we asked him to wait one second and he told us to get off the property immediately! So our whole group left. Sad such an establishment who just wants profit off animals and has no real compassion for equestrian life styles has a rent a cop to chase you away before. I would not recommend this to ANYONE EVER, in fact I will warn people to stay away before they even look at it.

My wife and I are not experienced riders and thought it best that we get a little saddle time before taking a back country trip in yellowstone. We have spent several hours in the saddle at Shady Lane Ranch. The experience has been great from start to finish. Charlie is a likable person that has selected horses each time that were gentle and well mannered. Every trail guide that we have gone out with has very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Definitely a good place to get a little time in the saddle.

Me and a friend that had never ridden a horse went to shady lanes and had a great time. The guide and staff were so nice and lots of fun. The guide had a lot of knowledge of the trail and horses and was fun to listen to. It is a slow ride but that is what riding trails are remember you are not running barrels or anything it is suppose to be a walking ride looking at scenery and enjoying the horse. If you are looking to go out and race this is not for you. The horses are great they were clean and seemed well fed and taken care of. It was a great time overall and I would recommend it to anyone looking to ride horse.

I started going there in the late 60's. I saw a wide varity of horses in good flesh. Charlie was very nice and just a terrific man. He always gave me a good horse. He never made me feel like I didn't know what end did what. He could tell I wasn't lacking horse sense.. I went to his ranch from Omaha maybe twice a week for many years. He's a very good horseman and really knows how to read people. I have since had a few horses of my own. Two of the best from Charlie. I'll never forget him.

One horse in our party had a mind of its own and stumbled several times during ride. When it came time to traverse down a hillside pass, the horse seemed like it didn't want to go down that trail and kept walking on its own, even when trail guide road up to turn him around. She mentioned twice that his leg looked fine and that he'd "Make it". During downhill portion he stumbled yet again. She again said his leg looked fine. We finally made it down and the horse looked relieved. What puzzled our party is that we had two children riding with us and no helmets were required and when we told the staff we had several inexperienced riders with us they never gave any lesson how to control the horses nor any safety precautions. Our company will not use or visit here again.

These horses are not for intermediate riders who want to get up and go. They are hard-wired to walk single-file, won't buddy up next to each other so you can talk to your friends, and are buddy sour if you hold them behind. There are no opportunities to trot or canter at your leisure, and the entire experience was a snore. Our guide was too young (looked 14), and you could tell she really hated being a guide. She was in a really bad mood the entire time. Felt like we were riding at gunpoint.Beginner horses take advantage of their riders by wandering or stopping to eat, which can be really frightening for a new rider who is unsure. They don't have any go which can cause them to resist any effort a newbie makes to get them to stop grazing on the trail. The trail wasn't kept trim and a lot of people I saw were being dragged through hanging branches and spiderwebs. A good trail is two horses wide and not so steep so new people not oriented to balance on a horse can ride safely. Not so wit

I went to Shady Lane to ride and was greeted by the nicest staff and trail guide I have ever met. The horse was fat and quiet and I had a beautiful ride through the hills . I couldnt have been more pleased with my ride or the service the ranch provided

I went to Shady Lanes Ranch with my friend and fiance. My friend hadn't ridden a horse in several years, but they were going to let her go. My fiance hadn't ridden a horse in an even longer period of time, but he was going to be allowed to go. I haven't ridden a horse in a long time, and I was not allowed to go. The manager twisted my words around and said I seemed nervous to ride the horse and that I said I had never ridden a horse before....which is nothing like what I told him. He said I could ride in two weeks. Come to find out, the gigantic group that went before us was a Job Corp group and a good chunck of those people had never ridden before. Why were they allowed to go, but not me? The next day, one of my friends who has a 10 year old daughter who has never ridden a horse before called and said numerous times she was only 10 and had never ridden before. The person she talked to said it was no problem, they have horses for inexperienced riders and she could ride. Why not me?
