I don't know or care about the bad reviews from 2008 or 2009. I found the staff to be bet helpful and knowledgeable. I still be there often.

A Good all around hobby shop

A great store. Always someone to help you. A great selection of models and trains. If you can't find what you're looking for,talk to Bob,he'll order it for you.

The good old days

I remember when I used to go in Walts when it was down town Joliet many moons ago. When old man Walt ran the place it was one of the best Hobby shops around. He was always very helpful and courteous. I just got into RC cars. When I went in there the people ( KIDS!!) working there did not even ask me if I needed any help. I stood there for over five minutes with that helpless look on my face and still could not get someone to wait on me. Leisure Hours is not much better. No wonder more people are buying on line!!!

Walt's Hobby Shop has been located in a Crest Hill Plaza for many years. When I attempted to visit the store with my disabled parent, we found that her wheelchair could not pass through the entrance for two reasons. One, there is a concrete step up (apprx. 4") and two, the door is not wide enough. So, I had to ask my parent to get out of the wheel chair and lean against the window so that I could break down the wheelchair to put it through the door. Then, my parent had to painfully walk through the door and then get back into the chair. In the meantime, a couple of employees (whom we found are "the renters" (or owners), sat and watched this go on (one was on the phone) and did nothing to assist. Since this is one of two businesses that sells railroad items in a 50 mile radius, we proceeded and took the items to the register. My mom asked when they might consider getting some handicap accessible entrance. One of the renters stated that it was not his responsibility. It is the responsibility of the owner of the plaza. Another employee who had been on the phone said he had been "busy." My parent stated that as the owner of the store, he really should consider that not everyone can walk into his store. An elderly man who had entered volunteered that he has trouble using his cane up the shipping ramp (which we used) and we should see UPS try to make deliveries. Profound rudeness and inconsideration by the owners of the business for a handicapped individual. Her money was okay, but she's not the kind of customer they will accommodate.
