I ordered their Family Dinner for Two last evening. The food was great! It was the second time we have ordered from New Peking. I was told that they have recently started delivering. In my opinion this is the best Chinese food in Crystal Lake. The only downside was that the telephone clerk gave the delivery man my wrong address althho they got it right the first time. He did get the food here before it got lukewarm. The servings were generous and the amount of meat was greater than I have ever experienced in a Chinese restaurant. We got enough for TWO meals for TWO people.

I am at a loss to understand the negative comments posted here. “Legodude” says that he should have read other reviews but his was the first one ever posted. Ladyellen2 is critical of the hotness of “Triple Delight”. I can only speak to Mongolian beef and General Tso’s Chicken. Both were very snappy by my standards.

These two previous reviews I will accept as something the reviewers experienced. Don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Call in an order & make sure they have your address correct.

I should have read the reviews...

I should have read the reviews before going here. Most are negative or mediocre at best. This place was very inexpensive and gives you an extra dish if you spend $20 or a 'better' one at $25 so for the price it is a good deal. That is the ONLY thing positive I can say about it. I got the Crab Rangoon, Egg roll, Hot and Sour soup, Szechuan Beef, General Tso chicken, Shrimp fried rice and the freebie was Sweet/sour chicken. Crab Rangoon had very little cream cheese and the batter had no moisture to it so it was way too crispy. The hot and sour soup was neither and honestly tasted watered down. In full strength it would probably have been good. Egg rolls were also a bit bland and on the tiny side. The Gen Tso Chicken tasted more like bland Korean BBQ, not tangy or spicy. There was none of the usual gooey deep red sauce dripping from it; in fact there was no sauce in the bottom of the container. The chicken had none of the signature color or flavor like Tso's at all. The Szechuan Beef was very tender, but the taste was again, very bland. It did have a touch of heat to it but the actual flavor was more of a bland brown sauce. I honestly thought I got the wrong dish since it did not taste like Szechuan. It wouldn't have been bad if it was labeled something else, like a 'Beef in brown sauce' or something. The shrimp fried rice was ok. It had a very dark color like it was a little burnt or over seasoned with soy sauce and had more of a salty taste than a good fried rice taste. The shrimp seemed a little 'funny', but couldn't place why. Perhaps the texture seemed wrong or that it did not taste very shrimpy. I have had worse fried rice but not very often at all. The freebie I got was Sweet sour Chicken. Ewww. It tasted like it was a few days old, you know that odd chewy crunchy taste bread type products get after being left out? Yep. I had to let it sit in the sauce until it was completely saturated and soft; then the breading was ok. However, like the breading, the chicken inside tasted a few days old, chewy and dry.

This place is takeout only and by the looks of the operation, I think they are doing everything they can to save money, which is why the food is so cheap. That would also explain why it feels like they cut a few corners like watering down the soup. Everyone has an 'Off' day once in a while, but at best everything I ordered was bland but really everything was just plain terrible. Go elsewhere, it is worth spending a little more or driving a little farther away. Anyone want my leftovers? I wont be eating any of it

I went there on 3/19/12, and will never go again. I ordered the Bo Bo platter for 2, Triple Delight, and chicken fried rice. The appetizers were marginal, and grease-saturated. The 'jumbo shrimp' was jumbo only in the amount of half-raw breading around it. I had to search for the filling in the crab rangoons, and the toast was a grease slick. Triple delight was supposed to be spicy, and I was even warned when ordering that it was spicy. Far from it!! Even with the addition of tobasco and soy sauce, it was flavorless. The 'triple' part of it was represented by chicken, beef, and one lone shrimp. I am giving this place one star, only because I can not give it zero. I will never be going back and have shredded the menu.
