I would like to tell you of an awful experience that happened to me on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at a local Burger King Restaurant.

My 2 year old granddaughter and I had just come from the park, and stopped at Burger King Restaurant in Dacula to grab lunch. I stood in line just like everyone else (oh, by the way, my granddaughter and I was the only black patrons of about 20 whites). When it came to my turn, I gave the cashier my order and we had friendly chat regarding the baby. I ordered a vege-burger with extra cheese, onion, pickles, water and an apple juice for the baby. I went to dine in the children play area. I took one bite of the vegeburger and notice it was hard around the edges (like freezer burn) and I did not get the extra cheese, even though it stated on my receipt that I was charged for it. So I picked up the baby and the tray and stood in line patiently. When I got to the cashier I politely explained to her that the vegeburger was hard around the edges and I did not get the extra cheese. She said ok, and took the tray to the manager and spoke with him (I could not hear). The manager came over and told me that the vegeburger was cooked to order, I said ok, but mine taste hard around the edges and I did’nt get the extra cheese, could I please have another vegeburger, he then said “why do you want another vegeburger” I asked him to look at the actual vegeburger around the edges (my monotone was still very low, I did not raised my voice once). The manager’s eyes started bulging with anger and he told me he was not going to make me another sandwich. At this point I realized that he was unreasonably angry and starting to make a scene, so I tried to calm him down by telling him I realized he must be under a lot of stress and that I understand how that can be sometimes, but If he could please correct my sandwich (all I wanted to do was enjoy a day with my granddaughter) At this point he blew his stack and told me I was not getting another sandwhich and told the cashier to give me my money back and refused to serve me. I was in shock all I could do for seconds was stand there, as this was unprovoked. Other customers in line said that they could not believe what just happened and one customer spoke out and said that you can’t deny her service she only wanted her order corrected. At this time, I had gotten over my initial shock and then ask the cashier what was the manager’s name, she seemed afraid to give it to me so I walked over and asked him, which he refused and did not say anything, so again I went to the cashier and asked her to give me his name, she whispered Barry and hurriedly gave me a receipt and told me to call the number on it and report the incident. If this incident wasn’t so blantant, I would have laugh it off but, I could not, so I went straight home to call Burger King Corporate to report this incidence. The phone number on the receipt that the cashier gave me was a direct number to the same Burger King and I recognized Barry’s voice, I asked him if this was the Burger King on Brasleton and he hung up the phone on me, so I dialed back and he answered, I then said I would like to have the phone number for your corporate office he then said well, it’s in Miami, I said that ok, could I please have the number and that’s when he gave it to me. I called the corporate office and reported the incidence.

Where my rights violated?

Within hours the regional manager, Mark called me and apologized for the manager, Barry. He was very sincere and explained to me that the incident should never have happened. He also is sending me a $20 gift certificate in the mail and has also offered to bring over dinner for my husband and me. I’m waiting to see if this happens. More to come.
