Provided by YPmobileI hope anyone considering this league for recreational soccer reads this first. I have so many reasons to stay away from this AWFUL league.
1. I registered 2 kids over the summer for fall soccer. We were told we would have team assignments right after Labor Day. I called the league regularly for updates while waiting because I started thinking we weren't going to get on a team. The administrator in charge of assigning teams would NEVER call back. Several weeks later after hearing nothing, we finally received our team assignments...
2. My daughter's team was to have practice on the day I was notified, at 5:30, half an hour from my home. At that time I asked for a refund since there was apparently no other team available for her to play on and I wasn't willing to drive that far 2 nights per week.
3. My son's team was more promising since it was a local, co-ed, rec. team with a great dad who volunteered to coach. But since the league gave us the team assignment too late, we had to ask for a bye-week for the first game so that the kids could have one practice before a game. Most of these kids had never played soccer before and didn't even know the rules.
4. We showed up at our first game after one practice to find we were playing an all-boys academy team. They had goalies (we had been told no goalies), and they had offensive and defensive plays! They clearly had practiced a lot and were very strong soccer players.
This was the case for every game all season. We lost every game (usually by 10 or more to 0), and we only scored a goal in 1 game the entire season- and that was when an older sibling went in for our team and scored the goal.
This was the WORST soccer experience for these kids! I understand it's not all about winning or losing but to get stomped into the ground every week due to completely uneven matches certainly takes away from the fun of the sport.
I will make sure that everyone I know knows to avoid this league. It is terribly disorganized and a pitiful atmosphere for beginner kids to learn soccer!
If this league wants to have any success expanding their rec league, they need to
1. Assign teams a few weeks before the season starts to give teams a chance to organize and learn the game,
2. Hire a coordinator who is better organized and more responsive,
2. And have REC teams play REC teams. Do not fool parents into a poorly organized rec league and have the kids play out of their league. I would have rather been given a refund so that I could find a more fulfilling activity for my kid.
