We saw Dr Gonzalez for 2nd opinion on abdominal hernia, he told us that surgery would be only 50% successful due to weight but if we had lap band first then it would improve success rate. Additionally he stated w/o lap band success rate would improve to 75% if she would lose 20-30 lbs. He had even went as far to say at that consultation that if we would do the bariatric surgery first then when we did the hernia repair, he would throw in a tummy tuck to take care of loose skin. My daughter did not want to have 2 surgeries and worked hard to meet Dr G's weight loss requirement. When she did that (lost 30#) and the payee called to set up the hernia repair, Dr G changed the weight loss requirement to 80# due to him not doing the bariatric surgery as he wanted. This change of weight loss requirement prior to hernia repair appeared to be purely $$ motivated and his wanting to do 2 surgical procedures on one patient.
