The Connecticut Department of Mental Retardation is a state agency funded by the state of Connecticut. It provides a wide range of support and services to more than 16,000 people with mental retardation. Its services include residential services, day programs, employment support, family support, case management and clinical services. The department also encourages people to engage in leisure and recreational activities that the department supports through grants to local city and town recreation programs, the Special Olympics and the Best Buddies programs. It provides special education services to children and adults. The Connecticut Department of Mental Retardation offers a variety of publications and organizes various events throughout the year.
