The Danville Police Department is a law enforcement agency that protects residents lives, property and individual rights and maintains peace and order. It operates a service division that is comprised of animal control, records, parking attendant, crime scene search, property control, crime prevention and public information units. The Danville Police Department also has an operations division that includes uniformed patrol, community policing, bicycle patrol, negotiations, general and special investigations, K-9 and auxiliary police sections. The department operates the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, which specializes in bomb disposal and hostage and barricaded gunman situations.
