The workers are overworked, too many patients and not enough staff. Patients are not evaluated to see if they would be better off to leave in their original chest port. Many older patients are too fragil to withstand the discomfort, emotional strain, and fisical complications that can accompany the placement of the fistula. It was told to me by a worker that Davita wanted all patients to have a fistula, and yet they do not have enough staff to make sure that patients new to the use of a fistula do not move around causing the needles to come out of the vein. This in turn caused a large hematoma near the size of a large grapefruit. Talk about stress to the patient and their family. This was one of the incidents that lead to my mother giving up. She had to have her fistula reversed because of this incident. By this time she was so emotionaly destroyed that she did not want to put up with anymore. It is my belief that had they left her alone and not insisted on a fistula she would be alive today. And by the way fix the dam toilet seat.
