The Norfolk County Sheriff's Office and Correctional Center is the only jail in the country located in the median of an interstate highway. The main building and the pre-release Dedham Alternative Center occupy 144,000-square-feet on more than 8 acres. The facility has more than 500 beds and contains state-of-the-art security features. It operates under a jail management style called direct supervision. The direct supervision approach is based on a behavior modification system whereby inmates are rewarded for positive behavior.
