We live in the city of Demorest since 2005 and the damaging effects of the dust from the quarry are concerning. Our homes and yards are covered in fine black soot, unlike any other dirt or dust we have encountered in previous towns in which we have lived. I understand this is a big business but at what expense. We have done many experiments. We dusted our homes only to find the same amount of dust the next day or later on in the day. This is not normal dust from day to day living. The dust is fine particles of a hard substance. We use our HVAC system and cannot open our windows on a cool day without suffering the consequences. We hose down our yards and can see the accumulation of gray and black particles. Those of us who suffer from upper respiratory issues suffer the most. We are planning to address this issue just as soon as we get a City Council that understands the concerns of our residents. Surely there must be a way that the waste issue can be addressed on a corporate level. It may be time to call in the EPA. No one seems to care about the effect this waste has on the community that surrounds their corporate endeavors. I don't know if this issue was ever addressed but we, as a community would like you to look into it.
