After my experience with Alamia Inc. last week, I had to write a review to warn the public.
I went online to find a replacement blade for my 20+ year old Snapper mower. Every year I buy a new blade for the mower. As always, I referred to the mower’s manual for the correct part number for the replacement blade. I found an online listing from Alamia Inc with a replacement mower blade they claimed would work on my mower (the OEM part # for my mower was in the subject of their listing). So I placed the order online for the part. The total amount was $19.95.
I was excited to receive my order because 4th of July weekend was coming up and I wanted the yard to look great for the party we were having. I install the new blade like numerous times before, and started the mower up. Everything seemed fine until I started cutting the grass – that’s when I hear this awful metal rubbing sound. I immediately verified the usual stuff that could possibly cause the problem, such as, the blade installed firmly and in the correct direction. I also checked to make sure the crankshaft wasn’t bent. Everything as far as the mower was correct. The blade is either defective or listed incorrectly.
I decided to take the part directly to their store versus paying to ship the part back. I met with Sean Francis, who told me that they would not take the part back because it was used. I explained that the part was listed by them online as a replacement for my mower. He told me if I provided proof that the part was listed incorrectly, he would be happy to exchange it (I soon learned that he said that just to get me out of the store—he had no intentions of correcting the problem).
So, I got home and emailed Sean Francis the proof he requested (a picture of my mower with the model number, owner’s manual, and a pdf of the original listing). A little while later I called Sean Francis. His behavior on the phone was completely different from what I had experienced with him in person. He told it was against their company policy to return used parts—period. The only thing they were willing to do was send the part back to the manufacture but they would not refund, credit, or exchange the part until they heard back from the manufacture. Actually, his rude words were “I will not give you a blade for free”. If I wanted the correct blade to cut my lawn that day, I would have to buy another one from them. No, thank you! I’m not losing any more money to Alamia Inc. As the saying goes "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on ME!
P.S. I was able to finally get my lawn cut. I took my old blade to a local place Agency Vac. They didn’t have a replacement blade for my mower (would have to order it), but they did sharpen my old blade so I could get my lawn cut before company came for the weekend. Agency Vac will have all my future business because they care about their customers.
