Having a weakness for sweets, I've tried most of the cupcake places in Denver and a one in Boulder and a real big fan of The Shoppe. Their cakes are so moist and rich and the icing is delicious.



I honestly thought The Shoppe had the best cupcakes in town until today.

Again, I really do love The Shoppe but after trying Monkey Love at Big Fat Cupcake, I have a new favorite. The cupcakes are comparatively alike but Big Fat's is just a little better. Perhaps it's the presentation or the sweetness or may be something else - I really can't put a finger on it - it was just a little bigger and a bit better tasting overall.



While I'll still visit The Shoppe while I'm on East Colfax (which is ten times better than not-so-lovely confections), Big Fat Cupcake is definitely worth the drive to Cherry Creek. The place is quaint with a retro feel and the staff is almost as sweet as their cakes. The marble table tops and brightly colored walls and glass display case added a unique contrast for a place to get a cupcake.



I would be amiss if I did not mention High*Rise Breads - they also have a great cupcake and would put them in the top three along with Big Fat Cupcake and The Shoppe.
