Terrible

After 19 years of being a valued and valuable patron of Mariel, I resign and I do not recommend you shop in this boutique. I far recommend a Nordstrom or a store that values your patronage and your dollars -- certainly your loyalty.

Over the last two decades, the women in my family have spend thousands -- probably tens of thousands - of dollars at Mariel. Over the years, we have purchased shoes, jewelry, purses, stoles/scarves and everything in between! But our support and patronage came to a crashing end a few weeks ago after my mother and I purchased expensive dresses clearly too big for us but under the guise that "a tailor or seamstress can take this in to make it fit."

My mother and I live 100 miles away. A visit to Mariel is a major destination and investment of our time and money. To buy something at full price and then seek out alterations is a further leap. And, after multiple visits to tailors and seamstresses, including Mariel's recommended tailor across the street, we were repeatedly told the dresses we purchased were not able to be altered to fit because of the delicate materials and the design that was clearly not for a petite small figure. Clearly we were sold the wrong product. We were shammed.

My mother, age 76, called and asked with innocence if we could bring the dresses back for an exchange for something appropriate. Mariel said "No." Not just "no," but with an emphasis and disavow that made my mother feel guilty and sheepish for even asking. She said she felt as if Mariel could care less if their product fit, and please - let the door hit her on the way out. They made the sale and the fallout was on us. That's disgusting and terrible customer care.

My receipt shows a purchase of $1663.19 for two dresses, a purse, shawl, and jewelry. The dress I wanted to exchange was $500 of the total bill. My mother spent about the same that day on multiple items. Neither of us wanted money back, we wanted a fair exchange for something that actually fit.

You can bet that I will never walk in your store again. I will never recommend you to my friends or family. It's too bad. I loved your style and your products. But with this treatment, not only did you lose me as a client -- but you lost my mother, my sister, my circle of friends and my referral.
