The Jack Mabley Developmental Center is a state-operated residential facility that serves adults with developmental and sensory disabilities. The center employs nurses, social workers and psychologists to provide on-site care for residents. It also attempts to provide residents with employment opportunities. The Jack Mabley Developmental Center is overseen by the Illinois Department of Human Services. The department serves the state by providing treatment programs pertaining to alcoholism and substance abuse, developmental disabilities, rehabilitation and mental health. It also offers health services for pregnant women, infants, children and adolescents; prevention services for domestic violence and at-risk youth; and welfare programs, including Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, food stamps and child care. The department employs more than 15,000 people and operates 200-plus offices. The Jack Mabley Developmental Center is located in Dixon, Ill.
