Its internal affairs division analyzes complaint data, reviews complaint investigations, investigates the incidents of alleged police misconducts, and assists in the development of needed training modules. The department also operates a harbor unit that enforces maritime codes and environmental regulations. The Boston Police Department administers trace and crime stoppers programs.
