Douglasville-Douglas County Water and Sewer Authority provides water and sanitary sewer service to more than 90,000 residents in Georgia. It provides drinking water to residents from its 1.2 billion-gallon Dog River Reservoir. Its policies are set by a board of directors composed of the mayor of Douglasville, the chairman of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and interested local residents appointed on a rotating basis. WSA has received a number of honors, including citations from the United States Environmental Protection Agency for best wastewater treatment plant in the nation and best overall water system operation in the EPA s seven-state Southeast region. In addition, its water and wastewater treatment plants and laboratories have been named best in the state by the Georgia Water & Pollution Control Association. In a taste test sponsored by GW&PCA and EPA, Douglasville-Douglas County water was named the Best Tasting Water in Georgia for 2003. WSA was created by the Georgia Legislature in 1985. The Authority is an independent agency, not part of the city or county government.
