Butler Township, settled in 1784, is a political subdivision of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is located in the southern part of Luzerne County, Pa. The township provides emergency services, courthouse, postal services, golf courses, airports, churches, campgrounds and cemeteries. Butler Township Police Department offers various services, including motor carrier safety assistance programs, accident reconstruction and drug task force. It participates with the Pennsylvania State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in uniform crime reporting. The township has adopted a zoning ordinance to protect the health, safety and welfare of it's residents and their properties.
