It is unfortunate Mrs. Gruening's did not add the endorsement to the policy. They were made aware of the availability of the endorsement through policy reviews letters on 6/23/2006, 06/25/2008, 06/22/2010 and 06/28/2012. There were two additional letters which highlighted flood coverage along with back up of sewer and sump pump coverage sent on 5/10/2007 and 3/10/2008. These were sent over the six years since the basement was finished. Our calls are recorded and there is no record of her request. They chose not to add it to their policy. I would suggest everyone look at their policy declaration pages to be sure they have the additional endorsements they believe they have. Backup of sewer and sump pump overflow is a separate endorsement which must be added with a variety of limits of coverage. It is not covered under the standard homeowner’s policy. My family has had insurance through Paul Kern Insurance for many years. When I finally submitted a claim for damage to our basement I was HORRIFIED to find out that Paul had not added the sump protection that I specifically asked him to add when we finished our basement! He refused to admit he made a mistake and was very callous. In fact when I asked "Why wasn't the sump coverage on there?!" He said "How would I know you have a sump?!" To which I retorted "Because I told you and asked you to add it!" He had nothing to say but "it isn't on there and I can't do anything about it." But he could have admitted he made an error and his agent insurance would have kicked in. So my family has to pay because he is too arrogant to admit he made a mistake.

I was very happy with the recent water claim I had. I expected to have to fight to get what I wanted and the Company I was insured with exceed my expectations. No hassels and it was settled in a very timely manner.
