North American Training Institute
314 W Superior St, Duluth, MN 55802
The North American Training Institute ( NATI ) is a Minnesota-based, not-for-profit organization that was created in 1988 at the behest of the Minnesota legislature. The mission of the NATI is to provide information, to facilitate research and conduct professional training about gambling addiction. The NATI studies treatment techniques, methods and programs, provides public education and prevention services, and develops and implements problem gambling helpline services. These efforts are primarily directed at those individuals considered to be at highest risk for developing a gambling problem, especially adolescents. The NATI serves as a technology-based library of research-based information, data, publications, articles and books about all issues related to gambling addiction. The NATI provides this information service to public policy makers, the media, researchers, treatment providers, employee assistance programs and the general public at www.nati.org. Further, the NATI convenes public policy think tanks on issues related to policy concerns. A merger of the American Academy of Health Care Providers in the Addictive Disorders, Cambridge MA., into the MCCG/NATI was completed in 2003. For over a decade, the American Academy has been the driving force behind contemporary clinical practice and research throughout the world. The American Academy provides a clinical certification in addiction treatment to a diverse membership of medical doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses and counselors from the US and seven countries. www.americanacademy.org Incorporated in 1988 as the Minnesota Council on Compulsive Gambling, a doing-business-as name change was instituted to reflect a broader scope of gambling addiction services.
