Superior National Forest is spread over an area of more than 445,000 acres. It offers various recreational opportunities, such as hiking, biking, hunting, picnicking, shooting, fishing, camping, birding, rafting and paddling. The forest provides various volunteer opportunities. The US Forest Service offers maps and brochures, as well as publishes a range of articles on wildlife-related issues. Established in 1909, the forest features several lakes, mountains, streams and bogs. It serves as a habitat for several plant, animal and bird species. Superior National Forest is a part of the US Forest Service, which is an agency of the Department of Agriculture. The US Forest Service manages public land in more than 150 national forests and over 15 grasslands that encompass an area of nearly 190 million acres. It works in partnership with universities and nonprofit organizations worldwide. Superior National Forest is located in Duluth, Minn.
