In 1996, it was renamed The Hill Center. In 1998 The Hill Center became an affiliate of Durham Academy with its own 12 member Board of Trustees. With a separate 501-(C)(3) status,

The Hill Center is considered to be a tax exempt nonprofit organization.

Since its inception, The Hill Center has served over 6,000 students, successfully partnering with more than 70 public and private schools throughout the Research Triangle community. Teacher training programs have been attended by more than 10,000 teachers from public and independent schools from across the country. In addition, The Hill Center has also consulted with national and international schools on its programs.
