My mother was a "resident" there 7 years ago and I wasn't impressed with the care but recently my friend's mother was there for 2 weeks and the care was unacceptable, so much so she brought her home. The unit was filthy and smelled. Staff talked of "hosing" down residents for a shower...nurse was heard mocking a resident calling "help..help". Mother was found with extra large diapers on even though Depends pullups were purchased privately and notes were left for staff to use.(.Mother weighs 107 pounds, xlg diapers went up to her chin)
My heart breaks for all the HUMAN BEINGS that are left there for their final days..
I'ts NOT right.

They gave what I would say was average care up until my grandfather actually passed. Within minutes of him dying, they asked when he was going to get "picked up." When we said we were going to call funeral homes, they made it clear we needed to hurry. Then....a memory I will never forget. They had my deceased grandfather wheeled out in a body bag in front of his whole family and myself. Other residents also saw this. One resident started to cry.

Beware Evergreen

There's a reason why New York State gives Evergreen Commons the lowest possible rating as a nursing home, which is one star out of a possible five. The place looks nice enough and there are some good people there, but the owner doesn't hire nearly enough workers. They use excessive drugging instead of care since there isn't enough help. They don't take people to the bathroom sometimes for many hours after they go in their clothes. There have been many cases of bed sores because of this and because residents are often left in the same position in a wheelchair all day long. Try sitting in a chair for 8 hours without shifting and see what it feels like and then imagine that every day. A bad nursing home is almost impossible to shut down because laws don't exist to properly regulate them. Unscrupulous owners are making huge money and abusing the elderly. Usually, a non-profit nursing home will have more workers and better care. Please use the NYS rating system and avoid places like this if you love your elderly relatives.

Based on the annual and complaint survey data reported by CMS as of 07/29/10 , this home is listed because in at least one area they caused actual harm to a patient and/or subjected the patients to immediate jeopardy. I GOET THIS INFORMATION AT THIS SITE AFTER VISITING MY MOTHER TODAY THAT IS THERE
