The DeWitt Police Department provides law enforcement services and works to maintain a peaceful and safe environment. It operates a patrol division that investigates cases related to personal injuries and motor vehicle accidents through its accident investigation team. The department investigates major crime-related issues, including burglary, larceny, robbery, forgery, assault, arson and homicide. The DeWitt Police Department maintains a youth services unit that is a part of the criminal investigation division and acts as a liaison with schools, completes referrals on juvenile arrests, maintains records, and is responsible for the research and development of new youth programs. It conducts property checks, security surveys, and crime prevention and block watch programs. The department hosts Project ChildSafe, which is a nationwide firearms safety education program that distributes firearms safety kits to children. The DeWitt Police Department also offers fingerprinting services.
