She spent nearly 3 years working at a child advocacy center, helping abused children and their non-offending family members. She also interned at a child abuse prevention agency, assisting with parenting classes throughout the community. Brooke most recently provided counseling services at a crisis center for adolescents. In this setting, she helped clients and their families with a wide variety of presenting problems including family conflict, substance abuse, behavioral issues, mood disorders, and trauma. As a counselor, Brooke likes to emphasize her clients’ strengths and empower them to overcome the challenges they face. Brooke uses a client-centered approach and draws upon various counseling theories in order to best meet the unique needs of each of her clients. After working with children and adolescents of all ages, she strongly believes in the importance of integrating developmental theory and being mindful of a client’s developmental stage while conducting therapy. Some treatment styles Brooke has used with clients include play therapy, art therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and solution focused brief therapy.
