Pathmark Warehouse is part of Pathmark Stores, which was established in 1968 by its founding fathers, Herb Brody, Milton Perlmutter and Alex Aidekman. The company s name came from the goal of providing a path for easy, one-stop shopping and bearing the mark of the mission to be one of the most successful supermarket retailers in the United States. The company was a pioneer in the super center concept that combined traditional grocery and perishable items with expanded offerings of nonfoods, such as small appliances. Pathmark was one of the first supermarket companies in the northeast United States to operate its stores 24 hours a day. The company was also among the first to utilize scanning registers at the checkout. The company operates more than 140 supermarkets in the New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia metropolitan areas, employing approximately 27,000 associates. Pathmark Warehouse maintains a location in Edison, N.Y.
