The El Cerrito-Kensington Fire Department works to offer a range of fire prevention and suppression and emergency services. The department is responsible for administering several fire prevention programs that include the development, interpretation and enforcement of codes, review of construction plans, testing of fire protection systems, abatement of identified hazards, and education of the public in the matters of disaster, fire and life safety. It also works to offer mercantile fire safety inspection solutions. The El Cerrito-Kensington Fire Department additionally administers the Community Emergency Response Team program, which includes disaster preparedness and first aid training. It is governed by the city of El Cerrito in California.
