The Department of Community and Human Development works to enhance human services, expand housing opportunities, and improve the quality of life for low- and moderate-income individuals. It works with a team of more than 60 staff members. The department is responsible for improving facilities, such as parks, libraries, streets, and community and senior citizen centers. The Department of Community and Human Development administers the Emergency Shelter Grant program. The department also conducts the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, which serves over 100 nonprofit organizations and agencies. The Department of Community and Human Development is governed by the city of El Paso in Texas.
