Sacred Heart Church
602 S Oregon St, El Paso, TX 79901
Our parish, Sacred Heart, was El Paso's first Catholic Church, founded by Italian Jesuit missionary Fr. Carlos Pinto, S.J. in 1893. Our church is located 3 blocks from the Mexican border where El Paso (population 750, 000) meets her twin city J arez (population 3, 000, 000). Our neighborhood, known as the "Segundo Barrio" or "Second Ward", is one of the poorest neighborhoods in the US with a host of problems and social challenges. Sacred Heart Church tries to be Catholic in every way possible, putting the Gospel of Jesus into action. Ever since it was founded, Sacred heart Church has always helped first generation Mexican immigrants to integrate into North American culture and society. For this reason, many have called us the "Ellis Island of Texas". Those wishing to marry should meet and consult with the pastor at least six months prior to the proposed wedding date.
