The original Sanders Furniture location was established in Commerce, Georgia in 1913 when M.T. Sanders purchased the J.J. Shephard Company that had been in operation for 50 years.The late Mr. Sanders began his career selling furniture from trucks and is credited with the originating the dollar down, dollar a week, plan in North Georgia. The business grew and in the late 1920s branches were opened at Monroe and Winder and at Buford and Elberton in the 1930s respectively.Today, four of the five locations continue to operate and grow with their communities. David Sanders maintains the original store, while Charles F. Sanders and his daughter Tora Sanders Lucas have guided the Monroe store. Tom Sanders presides over the Winder location and James Lord manages the Elberton store.We the Sanders and our staff wish to thank you our many customers of the local communities for your patronage, kindness and support that you have shown us over all these many years. For four generations we have and will continue to serve Northeast Georgia with quality merchandise at a good value and service with a smile is our goal and promise to you, our customer.
