Although it is a new school in the area, East Tennessee Ballet Academy has a seasoned, talented artist as it's director - and it shows! The difference in technique between kids taught at ETBA after just one year, and others in the East Tennessee area who have had years of dance at other area schools is astounding. ETBA kids possess a strength of stance, a poise, and a detailed orientation that suggests discipline and professionalism. Cindy Bernshausen's standards are high and she expects nothing less than each child's best. The different ballet levels are distinguished by the color and style of attire, as well as coif of hair. Class sizes are small allowing for plenty of individualized attention. Although there is a 'no-nonsense' air about the school, the kids really enjoy it. And maybe more important than anything else, I think the kids are developing confidence and a sense of purpose - which is certainly something to tilt their chins and lift their heads a little higher for.
