About Samantha Wilson Coming from a long line of teachers, going back to her great grandparents, Samantha Wilson forged her own way in a career in health care. She was inspired to pursue this path after reading a memoir by an emergency nurse. “It made a big impression on me and I wanted to have a career where I felt like I was making a positive difference in people’s lives,” she says. “A big part of being a nurse is educating so, in some ways, I guess I do teach.” Operating from the position that knowledge is power, her goal as a provider is making sure her patients have a clear understanding of their care, because it increases compliance and decreases complications. “[Knowledge] empowers patients to improve their health status and their quality of life,” she says. This field allows her the opportunity to guide women to be knowledgeable about how their bodies work and to feel in control of their health. She sees being a nurse as more than just a career. “I strive to provide competent, empathetic and compassionate care to all my patients.” Through her training and experience, she has learned to trust her instincts. Samantha worked for Beacon for eight years in the Emergency Department and believes the associates care about their community. “The people I worked with in the ER were some of the best nurses and physicians I have ever worked with,” she says.
