My name is Lisa Whitley and I ...

A fire occurred on January 25, 2014, which was a windy day on which no brush fires should have been sanctioned, on the hill above our home on U.S. Highway 27. Our local Cataula Volunteer Fire Department, which is located directly across the street from our home, was only interested in protecting the home and property of Larry Carver, who has the financial wherewithal and connections in the county, and his family. The only section of his land that was impacted by the fire was the shrubbery near the ditch on the side of the road.

In contrast, the fire followed a very suspicious line directly between his home and the home next to his straight to our property. Even the horses his family normally keeps in a coral behind our home during the day were suspiciously housed in their barn on the day of the fire so they would be out of harm's way.

Thankfully for the Ellerslie Fire Department, which had three trucks in our yard, and the Waverly Hall Volunteer Fire Department, we only lost a storage shed with irreplaceable antiques from my grandparents. The fire surrounded our home on all sides and was extinguished just twenty feet from our home.

We thank God for the dedicated volunteers of the Ellerslie and Waverly Hall Volunteer Fire Departments, who truly care about the people, as well as, the property.

I was informed by one of the volunteer firefighters that the origin of the fire was known, but the property owner causing the fire was never punished as I believe he/she is an extended relative of the aforementioned individual.

Again, thank you to the fantastic Ellerslie and Waverly Hall Volunteer Firefighters. We are forever in your debt.
