Provided by YP.comI booked online and reserved a nonsmoking room. When I checked in I confirmed that I had booked a nonsmoking room and the manager said she was giving me the best nonsmoking room. I paid and then went to the room and took my bag and computer in. It was about 4pm. Within 20 minutes the smell of cigarette smoke was permeating the room. When I went out the door to investigate I found that every non smoking room was surrounded by smoking rooms. Also, it was Sept., the weather was very mild and many of the weekly and monthly residents of the motel were outside their rooms, hanging out and smoking. This was the case throughout the U shape of the layout of rooms and it was then that I saw that all nonsmoking rooms were surrounded by smoking rooms. I could see this situation was destined for a night of suffering so I got in my car and drove down a couple blocks and found a motel that had all nonsmoking rooms and had a vacancy (this motel was not on Booking.com) where I had reserved the original room.) I paid for a room and went back to the White Pine to pack up the couple of items I had taken into the room. When I informed the managers (a nice friendly couple) that I was leaving and asked for a refund (it was about 4:30ish at this point) they said they couldn't do it and that I would have to talk to the owner, who lived there, but was not there at the time. They showed me a sign on the wall behind the desk of the office that said "no refunds after you have checked in" but that sign had been hidden by the door that was open from the office into the managers quarters next door. I returned later and talked to the manager who said I was over sensitive (which I agreed with, but it's a fact I live with) and that he would not give me a refund.) As I walked toward my car, he yelled at me that he would give me a 50% refund if I didn't write a review of his motel. I contacted my cc company to dispute the charge. No resolution yet.
