I called here after getting redirected from another store local to me. I called with an honest question and was met with mass amounts of sarcasm and ridicule when I asked the gentlemen if this is how you treat potential customers he proceeded to hang up the phone I would not recommend this store to anyone and will always tell people to avoid this store at all costs

I bought a 22R engine for my old toyota truck I use as a second vehicle. The first engine I got had a weld mark on the block. I took it back with no fuss. Got another engine, installed it and drove it, on and off, for about 8 months. About 5 months into driving I started to slowly notice that after the engine was warm, it was difficult to restart. This difficulty to restart gradually grew worse. I drove to the store one day and it almost wouldn't restart. Once it did, it did not want to stay running unless i kept the rpm's high. Barely got home.

I started it the next day cold. A LOT of water came out the tailpipe. Checked the radiator and it was down. Not a lot, but more than it should be. So…water might be getting into the engine. (Did the engine ever overheat? Absolutely not! Temp gauge works and it never got over normal. Over heat plugs never melted either.)

Took the head off and brought it to a professional machine shop. One look and the guy guessed that the head was out of specs. He measured and sure enough, the head had been surfaced too many times and was out of specs. It was too thin by a lot! Taking off the lifters he found that the cam shaft was likely bent. He said it should turn easily with two fingers and this one wouldn't turn using a tool for leverage!

So…two issues from the rebuilder (Engine World): 1) head was out of spec by being too thin 2) camshaft not straight

Machinist said that the engine might work for a while if I change the head gasket, but it will be a continual problem. (I trust this guy as he does very high end work, including for companies such as Ferrari. AND he saw what was wrong on first glance. To him it was obvious.)

My engine was out of the 6 month warranty, but I called anyway. At first I spoke with Nick. Told him that I was sold an engine out of spec. He said there is nothing he could do because it was out of warranty. He told me that their engines are always good.

Next I spoke with Rico. Simply said…he is a punk. He told me straight out that: 1) he did not care at all about what happened, about me, or about anything I said 2) said that whatever happened, it was a problem with installation 3) that in 22 years of business that Engine World has NEVER made a mistake (I questioned him on this multiple times) 4) said that whatever happened, it was likely something that I had done.

From my experience, the modus operandi of Engine World seems to be: 1)sell anything, whether it works or not 2) never admit anything 3) never apologize

In summary- Engine World sold me an engine good for 8 months, with a 6 month warranty.

NEVER BUY FROM THESE CROOKS!!!!!

Poor service. Staff are not at all professional and are not knowledgeable of what they're selling at all. I ordered and engine and was advised it was a Japanese low Mileage engine. The engine arrived with USDM vin# and no compression in 2 cylinder. I called back and was advised a new engine will be sent ASAP but didnt show up til a week later. Not only it's it took another week, but yet the engine was incorrect. This place is ran by illiterate, rude young dummies. And rest assure they will get they will be NEVER get my business again. BE AWARE OF THEIR SCAMMING WAYS.

BUYER BEWARE:

I am one of the guys that reported them to the Better Business Bureau and they lied and told the Bureau that I had no basis for filling a complaint . They actuall have 16 complaints and not 14 like the last reviewer reported in a 12 month period. They sold a me rebuilt engine that lasted a month. When my mechanic opened the engine he found that it had original pistons, which means it was not rebuilt. They just put on new rings and called it a day. My car is a 92 toyota truck with a 22RE engine and never will I buy from these thieves.

This is the worst business I have ever dealt with. My engine had a blown headgasket before I ever installed it. They wouldn't give me a refund or work with me. Now I am stuck with a blown motor. I will be filing with Better Business Bureau. I check on BBB and they have had 14 complaints lodged against them in the past three years. No other business of their size has had so many complaints. If you notice on the reviews the last 42 people rated them with a 5 stars but if you beyond that every other review gave them a 1. That tells me they have been busy making their reviews look good. They are con men

The cashier was very friendly and efficient. I called about 40 minutes before they were about to close to look for a certain auto part. The man, sounding busy enough, gave me different options and double checked to make sure they were in stock. We arrived a few minutes later and the store was quite busy. That being said we were still in and out within 5 minutes and the cashier was very pleasant. Would do business there again.
