The Alaskan-based company introduced long-distance competition to the state when it was founded in 1979. It has grown to become one of the United States premier integrated telecommunication providers. GCI is an employer of more than 1,200 and has a run rate close to $440 million. The company has a 45-percent share of Alaska s long-distance market and is the state s largest provider of Internet services, including dial-up, cable modem, wireless, digital subscriber line and dedicated access. GCI also offers cable television services. The company s services are connected through its fiber-optic, satellite and metropolitan-area network facilities of the contiguous United States. GCI maintains operations in Anchorage, Alaska.
