Established in 1973 as a 12 bed emergency shelter facility, Community Shelter Services has evolved into a multi-faceted shelter, housing and support services provider for homeless men, women and children. In 1987, CSS established our first Single Room Occupancy facility as a tenant in the old Columbus School. In 1998, the agency purchased, renovated and currently operates the second Single-Room Occupancy facility. Collectively, Community Shelter Services operates 90 units of safe, suitable, affordable and supportive housing for homeless adults. The shelter now has a capacity to serve 55 persons making us the largest emergency shelter in the Erie area.
