Riecken's was my first job in high school, and I can't say enough good things about the store. I stocked shelves for two years and throughout that period, I really got to know the employees, customers, and atmosphere. The employees take the job of helping each customer select the best, most properly fitted shoe for their lifestyle very seriously--they're truly experts in their field. They have an on-staff pedorthist named Wendell who is a gem of an old man with fun stories and an easily recognizable signature style (birkenstocks and a ponytail). From first walkers and diabetic specialty shoes to steel-toe work boots and quality orthotics, Riecken's is one of the two best places in town to find shoes--and definitely the best on the East side. They have state-of-the-art shoe fitting equipment and ABA certified employees who can diagnose plantar facetious, arch problems or perform gait assessments. Being a family-owned store makes it a wonderfully homey place to enter, and there are few downsides to choosing to Riecken's. They will find a solution to your foot problems, and more often than not, they'll do it with a smile. For kids, they'll even turn on the train above the carousel.
Though I will admit special orders are commonly late--8/10 times that is the manufacturer's fault. The other 1/5 of the the time, the stockperson likely made an error. So just assume 10-12 days really means like 12-15, at the latest 3 weeks. And don't yell at the stock girl, she's probably like 14 and has no idea what's happening. Instead, direct all yelling toward the upstairs people, I highly recommend Charles, he's fun to annoy. :)
