Great experience

My husband and I have two eight year old dogs and a one year old foster pup. Our dogs have attended multiple training courses (no less than ten). None of them stuck. Our dogs basically only listened when they wanted to and only if there were treats available (causing our lab-mix to put on weight). With the addition of a foster pup - we realized we had to do something about our dogs. We chose Mountain Canine College. The techniques we learned from Paul at Mountain Canine College resolved all of their behavior issues – including leash reactivity, dog aggression, ignoring recall commands (getting sprayed by a skunk twice in one year), barking and growling at guests, barking at us if we didn’t move fast enough for their walks. Paul has seen it all - and would offer solutions for any questions/concerns we threw at him. Our foster dog is now a superstar not a naughty teenager– and I actually like being around our two dogs again. Paul tailored his techniques to each one of our three dogs – they all learned differently and they all reached their training milestones at different times- and Paul modified his interaction with each dog depending on where they were at. You could see their confidence grow each week – and by week four they were all smiling during training. At home when we practiced our moves - we did one dog at a time – and the other two would run over to join in even when it wasn’t their turn. We have new dogs thanks to Mountain Canine College.

Just a remarkable dog trainer

Paul didn't train my dog - he trained ME to train my dog, which resulted in and established a bond/relationship based on respect and partnership. From a no-kill shelter, my husband and I adopted a GSD who was picked up as a stray who thought he could "set the rules". Within a few short weeks with Paul, the "rules" were re-set and Max has become a reliable, confident, joyful dog, a true companion who walks and hikes with me, off leash, regardless of distractions. And may I say, in addition to being a terrific dog/owner trainer, Paul is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.

Can't Say Enough Wonderful Things!

I can't say enough wonderful things about both Paul and his training techniques. After our first lesson our Golden Retriever learned that in life there are boundaries and has continually progressed from there. Prior to training, if we were outside and told him to come, he looked at us and took off. Now, after training, he is sp proud to run to us, sit in front of and get lots of praise! He has also learned many other things (in addition to respecting us) and is a much happier dog- not to mention that we are happier parents! If there were 10 stars in the rating, Paul would get them all! Thanks Paul. We look forward to traing with you and the new puppy- I can't even imagine not!

GREAT DOG TRAINING!!!!!

Love, Love, Love Paul! I was bitten many times by dogs growing up and was not really excited about having a dog so I insisted that we get a puppy so I can learn to love him. Holy cow. Who knew a puppy was as much work as a new baby? Our half mastiff half hound dog (Black Mouth Cur) had me wanting to return him after 2 weeks. Paul came to the rescue and now my Wilson and I are inseparable and he minds (even when the rabbit runs in front of him)! Paul was referred to me by a friend who had him train three of her Shepards. I'm so glad she gave us his name!!! I can't say enough. Whether you have a difficult dog or not, if you hire Paul, you're going to see results. Thanks, Paul!!!

Great training with great results!

Paul started training our german shepherds Yogi and Yoshi when they were 4 and 5 months old. Even after the first session they started mastering some of the basic commands. After a lesson number seven, a black bear wondered onto our property. I heard barking and went outside, and saw that the dogs chased him up a tree. The bear was standing on a branch and the dogs were under the tree barking. I gave them the command to come back and couldn't believe that without a second look at the bear, they both obeyed. Our dogs now obey all the commands Paul taught them, and it is a delight to be able to walk them without leashes without worrying about them running off after something. Paul is truly the best!

Happy Chocolate Poodle

Our 4 year old standard poodle Ghirardelli was a problem. While wonderful at home, he was aggressive with other dogs and would growl at any strange person, even with our orders not to growl. Although never a biter, he was an intimidator, and obviously fearful. One of three dogs in the house, he needed help. He had been through multiple obedience classes and knew the basic commands very well. In about 3 sessions, Paul had his number and the progress improved from there. Right after his "graduation" yesterday, we went out to breakfast and he sat, watching us from about 20 feet away, with kids running by, a number of people passing him and even two other dogs walking behind him. One down/stay and he was settled in. He's happier and more content. In addition, we got a twofer. Paul has a deal with the second dog trained for a discount. Our 10 month old miniature poodle Scout also got his first round of training, and learned all wonderfully. Although not having pre-existing behavioral conditions, he responded perfectly. We couldn't be more pleased. We highly recommend MCC & Paul.

So grateful

Working with Paul was an amazing experience for our family. He is so knowledgeable about the animal behaviors and solved every single issue we brought to him. Our dog is so much happier and easier to be with - so the family includes her in EVERYTHING now. He was always on time, returned phoned calls within an hour of each message and never once missed an appointment. If your dog has issues he can help. If you have a puppy that needs training he can help. If you want a dog that everyone enjoys this is the guy. I woudl recommend Paul to anyone who asked and you can bet we will call him for our next puppy too.

On to Gun Dog School

Upon getting a Golden Retriever puppy, I began training immediately at home using luring techniques. Although my goal was to eventually participate in the AKC Hunt Test program, but I knew obedience work was the foundation of all higher levels of training and a prerequisite. Although I was comfortable with my progress, I still realized that I needed to fine tune what I was doing and overcome some of my training shortcomings. I talked with Paul about my goals and he agreed to help me with the understanding that I wanted to train with commends and techniques that would easily lead me in to a Gun Dog Training school. Hunter was four months old and all puppy at the time. After each of the eight lessons the progress was great. I would often be stopped by many individuals who would first ask how old the dog was and then say how well behaved he was for being so young. Even though I trained every day in varied locations, Paul was instrumental in showing how to proceed with each new training task, and initially working with Hunter until he understood was expected of him. Although some correction might be accompanied by a yelp from the tug on the leash, at no time was I concerned with the methodology used? I realized that after a few training sessions how much respect Hunter had for Paul. When being worked by him, he was picture perfect, while during my daily sessions, he was always testing me. I was Dad who played with him, fed him, and let him get away with things at home when we were not training. It was Paul who was the foundation for the training progress.I would often laugh when we ran into Paul training a dog for another client and was surprised to see how attentive Hunter was to Paul even when we were relatively far away. Paul needed only to say sit, down, or another command to the other dog and Hunter would obey. At the end of the sessions, I was very pleased with how far we had come over the eight training lessons and felt comfortable moving on to Gun Dog Training school, having met the obedience requirement for proceeding. I still intend to follow up with Paul for some refresher training as time goes by to insure we did not development some bad habits over time. I forgot to mention how much training I needed to be consistent and not confuse Hunter. Thanks Paul.

Happy Dog! Happy owners!

Our 8 month old giant German Shepard, Cooper, was sweet as can be with our family and pets, but impossible to take anywhere. He had a major case of fearful aggression. He would bark and growl at people on walks, be aggressive towards other dogs, and anyone coming to our house would be greeted with barking and aggression, even children. After reading books and books on dog behavior, trying all kind of techniques, treats, discipline… we called Paul at Mountain Canine College and started the 8 week program. Results were immediate!Within the first 10 days of training with Paul, Cooper’s behavior changed radically, we could go on walks, sit at a patio of a restaurant with him, or have him walk calmly by other dogs…. It was night and day! But best of all, Cooper’s energy was so different, much more positive and balanced and we could tell that he was SO MUCH happier. Now that we completed the Mountain Canine College training, Cooper is the happiest, best behaved dog! Both on and off leash, Cooper sits, heels, stops, lays down, waits, stays, come when called, drops on recall…. It’s AMAZING. We couldn’t have done it without Mountain Canine College! Thanks Paul!

Excellent results with 3 dogs of different breeds

Paul trained us and our blue heeler, golden retriever and Airedale with excellent results. At the end of the 8 sessions, the dogs would sit, heel, go into a down position, walk off lead and come on command. The Airedale was a rescue dog, and at 3 years old had no training at all. Airedales can be stubborn and Paul wasn't satisfied with Marley's performance at the end of the 8 sessions, so he suggested an additional class at no charge, and then recommended one more (no charge) because Marley was almost to the level of performance that Paul expected, but not quite. I'd recommend Paul for anyone with a serious desire to have a dog you're proud to have around people.

Worth it!

Paul was referred to us by 2 other happy families as well as our local trusted pet store owner. Not only did Paul train my puppy but taught me how to train her, too! He was also a wealth of information about any dog-related question I had. Our 6 month old puppy amazes everyone with how well behaved she is. Thanks, Paul!

Terrifice trainer, ever for problem dogs

Paul's knowledge about training and dogs in general stood out to me right away. I have a 2 yr old GSD who's very protective of my home, but within a minute Paul had him sitting calmly by his side. No training, no special gear, just an understanding Paul has of dog behavior. As the training progressed, two other things stood out to me. The first is all the little tips he knows to help both human and dog get the most out of the training sessions. For instance, a sweeping gesture when giving the down command is preferable because it utilizes the dogs' eyes as well as his ears. Another impressive thing about Paul is how flexible he is with scheduling. We started with Tuesdays, but half way through he had no problem moving the training to Saturday mornings.I've worked with other trainers, but Paul's experience, knowledge and how easily he works with both dogs and humans sets him apart.

we were going to get rid of our dog

We were going to get rid of our dog due to him running away and aggresive behavior towards people and other dogs. MCC came out and evaluated him.(at no chargre)After the evaluation we had hope for our pup. After 8 lessons(and lots of practice on our part)we have a well manered addition to our family. He listens without the leash and he is no longer aggresive.thank you to MCC for a job well done.

My dog was very aggressive and now he is great on and off leed. I get lots of compliments all the time on his behavior. I would hire them again!

Great dog trainer

Lots of kudos to Paul Wekstein, Mountain Canine College, Evergreen, CO! After a recent move to Evergreen from upstate New York, my two large mixed breed dogs began acting out in a very aggressive and rambunctious way. I found Mountain Canine College online and gave Paul a call. Not only did Paul help me train my dogs, but he did an excellent job channeling their energy in a much more constructive direction. Paul’s approach to dog training is professional, direct and very effective. After 35 years of training dogs, he really knows what he’s doing!

Paul saved our dog - literally

I got a dog from the pound for my daughters (6 and 10). The dog was starved and seemed to have been abused, and started growling at them. It kept escalating, and we didn't know what to do. He eventually attacked another dog, and then bit my older daughter’s hand. My wife took him back to the pound. They called the sheriff, and Beethoven was about to be put down. My family was heart broken. I spent days talking to people in hopes of saving him. Then we found Paul. He thought that the dog could be saved, but he wanted to confirm it. I brought the dog back from the pound and Paul met us at our home. He spent more than 2 hours evaluating the dog with our children without charge. He felt, and was right, that the dog could be saved. He has been the consummate professional, and turned this abused dog around. He is extremely obedient, is a pleasure to walk with, and is now part of the family. His results are impeccable, and Beethoven is alive and in a loving home as proof.

Mountain Canine College

Paul Wekstein (if that's his real name)Never returns calls. Never keeps appointments. Drove by the place - the listed address - and it looks closed and yet he called me back to say that he is still in business. What's up with this guy? Does this guy do anything? And this isn't a real Canine Training Facility either!

Horrible!!!!!!

Couldn't make first two appointments. No call no show on third appointment! Thinks that his business is too good to make apoinments, then tells me he can't take anymore business after he made the first three and canceling them! I do lot's of business in this same small moutain community, and would never treat my customers they way Paul does. I don't even know how he is still in business. All that he needed to do was pick up a phone and notify his next customer of his late E.T.A., which he neglected to do. He could have also admited his mistake of being late and appologized. That is what I would do instead of treating my customer as if he did something wrong. He is the one who blew me off for three appointments. He shouldn't have said that he could be at my apointment as a new customer three times and than change his mind. That is so politicaly incorrect as a business owner.
