Do Not Go Here If You Want To Survive!!

My best friend had laparoscopic surgery at Mercy Fairfield to remove his gallbladder. It was supposed to be outpatient, but he was rushed to the ICU and put on a ventilator for four days, discharged 3 days after that, and died 14 hours later. To this day, we don't know what happened. In the pacu, they said he aspirated during extubation. All those days in the ICU, no one talked to any of his friends or family. What little information they did give us was contradictory and, apparently, untrue. He was 29. He was an amazing human being, and these doctors and nurses couldn't be bothered.

If given the choice, I would rather just die in an alley than allow these people to earn money giving orders that were never followed and watching me fall apart in the process. I cannot emphasize their utter lack of compassion and incompetence. The nurses only checked on him if we grabbed them, and the doctors did even less. The one thing we were told, by every doctor, was how this wasn't their fault. Maybe they could have worried less about guilt and more about the life of a young man who, prior to the surgery, was a bright, kind, generous member of society.

The care here is substandard. The only nice thing I can say is that it appeared clean.

I'm sorry that some of you hav...

I'm sorry that some of you have had a bad experience at MERCY FAIRFIELD E.R.......I love the hospital , the Dr.s & the nurses. In Jan. 2008 Dr.Babbitt saved my life. He found out that I have a terminal lung disease, but without that diagnosis (that other hospitals & Dr.s did not find for over 5 yrs) I would not be here now....I wouldn't have been there when my now nearly 3 mo. old grandson was born & I certainly would not have been able to keep him while mom & dad have to work. I have learned that everyone has bad days (even Dr.s) We have no idea whats going on in their lives, everyone always assumes that they must have perfect lives. Remember they are only human, JUST as we are!

LOVE YOU ALL in the Lab, Cardiology Dept. & Critical Pulmonary Care
