The United States Golf Association serves as the national governing body of golf for the United States, its territories and Mexico, and is based in Far Hills, N.J. Founded in 1894, it is a nonprofit organization governed by golfers for the benefit of golfers. It sponsors a variety of programs, ranging from conducting more than 10 national championships each year, writing and interpreting the rules of golf, funding turf grass and course maintenance practices to supporting grassroots programs that benefit the game. The United States Golf Association also plays a prominent role as the game s historian, collecting, displaying and preserving artifacts and memorabilia at its museum and archives.
