Your first clue things are not...

Your first clue things are not right

http://pioneermillworks.com/products/bargain-basement (bottom of the page) "Samples are not available for bargain basement items."

YOU CAN"T GET SAMPLES OF WHAT YOU ARE PURCHASING

flooring is an afterthought for these people - Timberframe being their prime moneymaker. Spend some time in their yard with the reclaimed wood in the hot summer - between the carpenter bee's and woodpeckers looking for bee larvae, the hand hewn beam you so romantically opine for your mantle, turns out to be no bargain…….

Reclaimed product is sketchy because that wonderful barn flooring @ $9/SQFT might have about 80-100 years of animal urine that remains in the wood. No amount of kiln cooking will resolve that.

The purple stained wine vat slats will smell sour & those trendy reclaimed green colored 100 yr old dock piers from NYC will smell foul of the ocean when milled

Dont EVER think about buying and "end of run" special or "bargain basement" items - "End runs" can include material that already had the good stuff sorted out. In fact, some of our material had pencil marks circling the bad sections with an "x" through it. (see pic)

"Bargain basement" can be either out of spec, lacking a critical mill detail (such as an end bevel or material thickness) or been rejected by someone else - ask them what their ISO Quality system ensures, & you'll get a glazed look.

NO ONE ELSE WANTS THESE PRODUCTS FOR A REASON - ASK THEM IF IT IS REJECT MATERIAL. Heres the core issue - they service large commercial accounts - as the excess, & sorted material is set aside - it ends up in the bargain bin

Several of the photographs posted indicate that there are end voids, thin material, insect damage, warping.

We purchased bargain material with the understanding that it had a 1/4" warp over 8'....the actual warp was 3" (see pic)

They originally said the material was a nail down application only, & they were quite firm about it - yet as we worked with our builder, it looked like we might end up with a concrete floor, at which time they said glue down would be fine.

Can you imagine what the floor would look like with a 3" warp in a glue down application?

The term "AS IS" encompasses many many potential sins & unless you know plenty about flooring, you stand to lose.

CALCULATE YOUR OWN SQUARE FOOT REQUIREMENTS & ADD 10-15% TO COVER ANY ISSUES WHICH MAY ARISE. DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING UNTIL YOU CONFIRM THEIR MEASUREMENTS. WE HAD A 700SQFT REQUIREMENT - THEY CALCULATED A 150 SQ FT OVERAGE (20%)....ON A NO RETURN / NO REFUND / BARGAIN MATERIAL

In the event you are enough of a sucker to deal with these people - DOCUMENT EVERYTHING….we didnt, & the story changed several times. We had 2 contracts - in order to receive one refund restock credit on one contract, they obligated payment for replacement material on the other. Trouble being, they had promised replacement as n/c when they visited on site. When i threatened to sue, they assured me that I'd lose the first refund (even though there was a paper trail committing them to it) and was told by the GM "It's only $60 bucks, what are you arguing about?" Then, in order to get any credit, a condition of settlement was releasing them from any legal claims...... Sorry kids - it's ethically challenged to hold one claim refund hostage to ensure a payment on an item that was supposed to be free replacement material.

Never, ever, again

Let this be your red flag, people
